When you’re on a mission to pet 1,000 cats, you quickly learn a universal truth: cats are not huge fans of cold weather. As autumn turned into winter, the local felines clearly decided to stay indoors, and my numbers definitely reflected it!
The Mysterious Winter Encounters (October – March)
Things slowed down quite a bit over the colder months. Pandy is growing up to be a lovely cat. In October 2022, I met a lovely cat named Siri, but after that, I completely lost track of names!
Between November and March, I managed to pet 7 cats in total (2 in November, 1 in December, 2 in January, 1 in February, and 1 in March). I might not have recorded exactly who they were or where I met them, but every single one of those anonymous winter purrs counted toward the grand total. If you were a fluffy stranger who let me pet you during those freezing months – thank you for your service.
April 2023: The Spring Surge
Just as I was wondering how I’d ever reach 1,000 at a rate of one cat per month, spring arrived—and so did a massive boost to the tally. April brought a fantastic haul of 13 cats!
Sparkle had another 4 kittens. There is nothing quite as cute as watching kittens grow up.
Then, to really kick the numbers back into gear, I made a triumphant return to London and headed straight back to Java Whiskers Cat Cafe. This time I visited the Cat Lounge and had the same, wonderfully relaxing time in the presence of kitties. Nine professional cafe cats later, and the mission was officially back on track.
