Starting a new year on the 1,000 Cat Mission always comes with the same challenge: January weather. When the wind is howling and the frost sets in, the local felines are firmly indoors, keeping their paws warm. So, to kick off 2026 properly, I stuck to the most reliable winter strategy available and hit the local cat cafés.
Tabby Terrace and Nelson’s
The year started with a very pleasant trip to the Tabby Terrace Cat Café, which provided a cosy escape from the cold and 4 wonderful cats to add to the new year’s tracker. This is a lovely cafe, with only 4 cats, but they are so friendly! You can tell they are family pets and they loves treats!
Following that, I headed over to Teignmouth to visit Nelson’s Cat Café. They absolutely delivered, providing a fantastic 9 cats to round off the month’s tally. There really is no better way to beat the January blues than with a hot drink and a room full of professional purrers! We rocked up at Nelson’s in their first week of opening and they have so many lovely cats! Clearly a family-run business and it was amazing!
