It all started with a viral video. You’ve probably seen it – the one where someone changed the lyrics to The Proclaimers’ hit, “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” to be about petting 500 cats.
Watching that video, a thought occurred to me, how great would it be to actually do that? And just like that, the grand mission was born: Pet 1,000 cats.
It sounds like a lot (and it is), but every epic journey has to start somewhere. For me, it started right at home during the summer of 2022.
July 2022: The First Felines
I officially kicked off the tally in July with two very important VIPs (Very Important Pets): Sparkles (aka Miss Sherbet Sparklepaws), our tabby-and-mostly-white Ragamuffin and Mr Kittenson, our tabby Maine Coon.
You can’t rush greatness, and you certainly can’t rush a cat who has found a comfortable spot next to your Nerf blasters. July closed out with a modest but respectable 2 cats down.
August 2022: Slow and Steady
August brought another 2 cats to the official count. While it wasn’t a massive numbers month, there was something very special brewing. A certain momma cat was taking care of a brand new litter of kittens, meaning my numbers were about to get a serious boost very soon!
